On Saturday, we got to meet cousin Steph's new baby girl Gwen. She was born on Friday and Leah loves babies and of course her cousin Evan, so we decided to take the hour plus drive to Waukesha to see them in the hospital.
The trip started out on a bad foot as we had just purchased an in car dvd player for Leah since we will be traveling to Minnesota and Nebraska this summer. It started out just fine then it just shut off. YAY! We figured it just needed a new fuse so we kept on driving while Leah sat in the back saying "watch animals Mommy watch animals" (she was watching Madagascar).
Before we took off, Steph had told me to bring directions because it would be a tough place to find. Our GPS hadn't been working (looking back it was probably the blown fuse in the cigarette lighter causing that problem too) so we used trusty mapquest. As we got into Waukesha we saw signs for the hospital. Great, I thought let's just follow them that seems so much easier. Nope. After about a mile the road signs just stopped. So here we were in a town we don't know, with 0 directions. So we called Steph and she said that they would be heading home soon so we could just meet them there. Now all we had to do was find our way out of this crazy town.
We somehow managed our way back to the interstate-of course driving right by the hospital we couldn't find-and sat down at a Culver's to enjoy a break. After eating, we went out to try and figure out the fuse situation. Ry mentioned that he had seen an auto place down the road so we went there and bought a new fuse. Problem solved right? Well, for an hour anyways. Now, we headed back to Hartland, dvd player working-to shop until Steph and Derek made it home.
After about an hour at Kohl's we went to visit. The whole ride up I kept telling Leah she was going to see baby Gwen. She thought we were going to see a baby penguin. She insisted that the new baby's name was Penguin:)
Baby Gwen is a perfect little lady-tiny, and maybe a touch groucy-but she had had a long few days:) Steph looked amazing and so calm-I can only imagine the chaos she must have felt especially with people in her home and not to mention, a 3 year old. Leah and Evan played like old friends-they made us hot dogs and french fries in vinegar-fake of course-and they played with the popcicle play doh set we had gotten Evan as a big brother gift.
Every few minutes Evan would come over to whoever was holding the baby and give her a little kiss-what a great big brother! Leah also loved baby Penguin and would also need to know where the baby was at all times. They really were great kids!
We love you baby Penguin :)
